Beaconsfield, 22 Newport Street, London SE11 6AY. Dreams and Guilt. Exhibiting counter-narratives invites artist-researchers to share their experiences of surfacing diasporic stories in the UK. The symposium asks:   What drives us in bringing to light repressed histories, often linked to our own place of origin? What are the commonalities and the differences between these silenced voices and the ways we attempt to access them?    What are the barriers to the public sharing of buried histories and why might a visual art framework and the mechanisms of processual installation be conducive to articulating counter-memories?     Presentations by Jumana [...]

What is left when there is nothing left? “Past Present. The archive and the body” is an art project that explores the relationship between body, memory and archive in various displaced communities from radically destroyed places. Through performative means, we activate the remnants of communities immobilised in a traumatic historical time, as well as of disrupted worlds: the demolition in the 1980s of the neighbourhoods around the former Uranus Hill, Bucharest, and the body casts of the ancient inhabitants of Pompeii trapped under lava during the eruption of Vesuvius in 79. Archival fragments and memories are interpreted and reactivated [...]

Dancing walks – International Dance Day

April 30th, 2021|Categories: News|

Starting with April 29, the International Day of Dance and until June, we invite you to meet a dancer and walk together in a dancing walk. Walking is common, but with each step before the other the movement becomes automatic, unreflective and we tend to forget its potential to create. We invite you to take advantage of this walk and understand it as a dance. Walking, a concrete, everyday thing, then becomes abstract, because dance opens it to the possible. In the idea that every body movement is expressive, even walking, you will spend together an hour in which [...]
