The performance institution launches an open call for artistic residencies that will take place between July 1 and September 30, 2025.
Application deadline – June 6.
The call is addressed to artists – from different backgrounds – active in performance (and interested in the possible relationship between performative processes and those in other artistic media).
Especially for those who recognize or want to recognize the power of performative thinking to move reality a little or who have quite a lot of faith in art 🙂 and just as many questions about its relationship (and the specific difference of performance) with reality. And that's what we would like to read from you, in a few lines, at theatresteatre@gmail.com.
The residency itself includes: one week, day and/or night, in the Teatre space, on Schitu Măgureanu 21, Bucharest, plus a few more days in October before a presentation within the Rehearsal for a performance institution (festival). Participation is remunerated.
In addition to the concrete data, the residency at the Performance Institution means, and this is the most important thing, an invitation within an already established "sublunar" community, priority at training workshops and the possibility of a dialogue with the initiator of the program, artist Adriana Gheorghe, which can take various forms, depending on desires and needs, from conversation, to accompaniment or mutual exchange, but also collaboration or mentorship.
We like to think of the Performance Institution as that backdrop that transforms all of us participants into protagonists, while preserving, at the same time, something of the tidal movement of a way of being together unbounded by external means, respecting individual needs for difference, dissent and continuous reformulation.
We like to think of the Performance Institution as an intuitive and counterintuitive space of deep rest (as the first performative-political way of moving reality in the opposite direction of acceleration).
Since its texture is acoustic and aural thinking, we thought we would better approximate it through four themes. These do not necessarily have to be addressed in the application. They will be part of the resources made available to those in residence – an affective map with four large, immense concepts: love, landscape, rest and choir.
We would like to think together about how these meet with performance, a performance understood rather as a non-coincidence between thought/language and experience. And let's investigate how the four themes or the relationships between them can be approached as a modality, beyond any representation/explicitization.
But theory can remain in the background, the main invitation will be to position yourself on this conceptual-affective map, closer or further from one theme or another, or from the relationship between two or more themes, oscillating between identification, alienation or a gradient of good dosage.
In the meantime, to give you an idea, on June 2nd, the "Room Performance Festival" begins at Scânteia+, the first event of the Institution, with the workshop – 𝘍𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘋𝘳𝘰𝘱 – by the Icelandic artist Margret Sara Guðjónsdóttir, a literal invitation to the deepest rest.
