  • FILM made @Rezidența BRD Scena9 + documentary ′′Close Enough′′ + the short film ′′Connection′′ – on 11.18 at 8:00 pm | online release

′′When we discussed the idea of the project, a year ago, together with Cristina, Smaranda and Simona, we didn’t imagine the circumstances would evolve in such an alienating way. That alienation from others will gain new meaning, new reality and new forms. That we will increase our fear of others, all those who present a potential danger to us. That we risk alienating ourselves.” – Benno Voorham, concept and choreography “ALIENATION or the desire for intimacy”.

The result is a multi-media performance, an assemblage of different scenes around the three themes of the project: Alienation, Desire and Intimacy. It’s a poetic, visual, moving journey into the underworld of our desires, an intimate journey to what motivates us to be with ourselves and with others.

We start with words. Not just any words, but those that, sparked by the artistic practice, escalate from the most hidden areas of the self. They break out through words and dance, the body has the capacity to reveal through movement what is beyond words. We overlap live images to support or contradict body messages.

The passages between the two states – alienation and intimacy – are made through desire, or perhaps, by lack thereof. Sometimes the two states and the craving coexist, other times they succeed, sequentially. There is a subjective order by the author, which you will notice during the performance @Unteatru (on 11.07). Everyone can relate differently to pieces of intimacy, alienation or desire, and can do it live, at the durational performance @Museum of Recent Art (on 11.05) deconstructing the original order. Finally, it will be the movie (made @Rezidenta BRD Scena9), which gathers the essence of previous representations in concentrated doses of alienation, desire and intimacy (on 11.18).

′′there is a space. there is a space that I usually don’t speak about. It’s actually what happens behind a foggy grey curtain. I’m wondering how you do it. because rarely people speak about it. it is sometimes not even mentioned in a lifetime…”
there is a place. there’s a place I don’t usually talk about. this place is blurry to me like it’s

′′desire is a bottomless sack…”
′′I want you so much that I don’t even want to have sex with you”

′′to be welcomed in someone´s thoughts, to see the moves of his soul”

In a complete – even intimate – relationship with dancing is also music. The 57 minutes comprising 7 tracks were created by the young composer Andrei Petrache within a month.

′′With Benno I collaborated and communicated very well since the first day I started working on the soundtrack. Through very frequent dialogues and feedback, followed by adjustments, to reach music that supports as much as possible, even inspired the performance.” – Andrei Petrache, composer

After the premiere (on 11.7) we will organize an artist talk. Our guests, Ovidiu Telegescu, a psychology-sexology specialist, and Fidelie Kalambayi, a sociologist, will debate with the artistic team what intimacy means in the contemporary world.

We will also analyze the more than 70 responses received to the questionnaires launched a month ago, about how each one understands intimacy, from lack or excess of it with those around us to the role that shame plays in this whole story.

The questions from which the project started remain open:

How can we get closer to others when we don’t let others get closer to us?

How is shame touching desire touching intimacy touching your body touching your soul?

Can I overcome the alienation I often experience between me, myself, and you?

How to be intimate in a virtual world?

Are you curious to see what happened at rehearsals? How the project has evolved from idea to performance? Then you can watch the documentary ”Close Enough” by Cătălin Munteanu (on 11.18).

A different perspective on the same theme will be seen in ”Connection”, the short film made by our partners at Echo Dance Theatre Company in Northern Ireland.
