SATURDAY CI JAMS BUCHAREST

An IC jam session is similar to a jam session of music. The dancers meet to improvise, to inspire each other and spontaneously create compositions in the form of solo, duet, trio, group.
.. Professionals and amateurs exchange experience …
… is an opportunity to take the dance from the conventional scene (scene) and dance for the sake of dancing …
… to give our motives and impulses to refresh …

In the world they most often meet for jam amateur dance sessions and Contact Improvisation practitioners, but no one is required to dance Contact. It is a free space for any movement experiments that encourage both physical and emotional integrity of each participant.

Every Saturday Virginia Black and his guests support Contact Improvisation classes followed by jam sessions where dancers and passionate movers are invited regardless of their level of experience.

About CI:
Contact Improvisation is a form of dance practiced by contemporary dancers – professional and amateur – for refining motion technology to create performance choreographies (especially duets) to develop spontaneity and compositional composition, or sometimes just for dancing without a specific purpose, for the simple joy of the movement, play and experiment, to put aside everything that is known about dancing and to reinvent the “dance wheel”. 😉

Movements are created when you contact a partner. There are two bodies with different weights, different dimensions, different characters, different thoughts, and their balancing through body communication becomes the source of improvisation through contact.

Each participant in CI brings its motric and emotional history. There are no movements that need to be taught before I dance, it only needs to be available to feel the state and sensations present in the body at the time of the meeting. The vocabulary of movement is gradually formed through sensitization and awareness is what our body has learned so far.
Steve Paxton, the initiator of this dance form, says “you can not teach someone to dance to CI, but anyone can learn (dance) CI. What you can learn is the focus on your body as a safety measure and as a source of inspiration in motion. ”

“Contact improvisations are spontaneous physical dialogues that range from stillness to highly energetic exchanges. Alertness is developed in order to work in an energetic state of physical disorientation, trusting in one’s basic survival instincts. It is a free play with balance, self-correcting the wrong moves and reinforcing the right ones, bringing forth a physical/emotional truth about a shared moment of movement that leaves the participants informed, centered, and enlivened.”
